IMMIGRATION and BORDER DIALOGUES CONFERENCE at the Evergreen State College May 15th-18th, 2008.

This conference will examine barriers, real or perceived, that divide our communities. Topics will include political and socioeconomic status, culture and ethnic heritage, and current immigration policy. Together we will examine current realities faced by migrants and refugees, amplify inclusive approaches, and create space for the emergence of a more just and humane future.

The program will include speakers from human rights organizations working both regionally and along the US/Mexico border, panel discussions, workshops, theater, art, and seminars. Some highlights are Jennifer Allen the executive director of the Border Action Network, Rev. Robin Hoover the founder and executive director of Humane Borders, Rev. Delle McCormick the executive director of BorderLinks and Pablo Peregrina a singer/songwriter from the border. We will also be featuring local voices such as Rosalinda Guilen, Maria Cuevas, and Rogelio Martinez from Community to Community Development, and The Mamalogues, a theatrical production of local first-generation stories of migration.

Media representatives are welcome to attend the conference and/or schedule interviews with conference presenters. For more information on the conference visit http://oly-wa.us/bridges or bridgesnotwalls@riseup.net.

BRIDGES NOT WALLS is a group of concerned community members from the South Sound Area and beyond who have united in solidarity, and are building a human rights movement in order to realize a sustainable future for all.
