full description & details:

On Friday evening, June 6, at Town Hall (8th and Seneca), the Progressive Action Committee PAC (PAC2) will feature an evening with Cindy Sheehan, the well-known anti-war activist and Bush antagonist, who is running as an Independent for the House of Representatives in Nancy Pelosi's district in California. Speaking on the subject, A Revolution of Values: Moving from a War Economy to a Peace Economy, Sheehan will address Seattle audiences about the need to challenge our current leaders in Congress and to move the country away from its militaristic response to international problems.

Five years after the invasion of Iraq, with more than 4,000 U.S. military deaths, and somewhere between 600,000 and 1.2 million Iraqi civilian deaths, it is clear that our elected officials, even after the resounding message sent by the people in the 2006 elections, are unwilling to end the devastation. Cindy Sheehan has been a brave and unfaltering voice against the cowardice that continues to be exhibited by our senators and representatives. By challenging Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi due to her position that “impeachment is off the table,” Sheehan is giving the American people a candidate that we can count on to bring real change to our government and to end the war in Iraq.

Maryrose Asher, spokesperson for PAC2, says, “This will be a unique opportunity to meet the ‘Peace Mom,’ founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, and now candidate for the US House of Representatives and to support her campaign. Emcee Eva Walker, who played a major role in organizing the October 27 march and rally against the war, and the highlighting of young, local musicians will hopefully draw in a young audience to this event and encourage them to get involved in the political process as it their future that is so much at stake.”

As Sheehan writes in “Fountain of Sorrow (3/24/08), “…I still fiercely believe that our present actions do affect the future and there are things that we can do now to prevent potential grief. We are called to not be just passive voters in America, but fully participating members of humanity in the world. Nothing will change as long as we sit around wringing our hands and whining that there is nothing that we can do about the mess we are in.”
