This crisis is not due to lack of food or resources, but the priorities of a global financial system more concerned with profits
than human needs. Rapid investment in biofuels such as ethanol have usurped huge tracts of farmland. Even more disgusting are
the Wall Street speculators raking in billions by literally gambling on the price of food. Join us for a discussion on the roots
of the current crisis and how we can fight for a humane alternative to this sick system.
full description & details:
A UN spokesperson recently referred to a "silent tsunami" that threatens to plunge more than 100 million people on every
continent into hunger. Since the start of 2006, the average world price for rice has risen by 217 percent, wheat by 136 percent,
corn by 125 percent and soybeans by 107 percent. But the tsunami is far from silent. Skyrocketing food prices have forced
thousands of Haitians to subsist on mud cakes, provoking massive riots that have effectively shut down the country. Egypt has
erupted in strikes and demonstrations.
This crisis is not due to lack of food or resources, but the priorities of a global financial system more concerned with profits
than human needs. Rapid investment in biofuels such as ethanol have usurped huge tracts of farmland. Even more disgusting are

Featuring an eyewitness report from Haiti.
