Dear colleagues,

This letter is to invite you to the upcoming Washington State Coalition for Language Access (WASCLA) Summit VI, "Working Together to Ensure Language Access" This upcoming Summit, to be held on October 15th and 16th , at Shoreline Conference Center, will provide an opportunity for conference attendees to participate in trainings and discussions on improving access to services for Limited English proficient (LEP) individuals in a variety of settings and by employing a variety of strategies. Please join us this year as we expand our understanding of what it means to provide ‘meaningful access’ to services for LEP individuals. See the attached Registration Packet for the conference agenda, panel descriptions, presenter biographies, and the registration form. We encourage you to submit your registration form and payment as early as possible to confirm your participation at this year's language access summit.

Washington State has a long history of being at the forefront of providing interpreter and translation services. This Summit will bring together stakeholders from around the state to share strategies and resources which will enable you to efficiently and successfully comply with legal requirements to provide access to all residents, regardless of language ability. Whether you work directly with LEP individuals or are responsible for drafting policy, we encourage you to attend and help us achieve the following goals:

· Learn about both state and federal Office of Civil Rights perspectives on language access enforcement trends and compliance standards

· Explore community engagement and advocacy measures

· Participate in interactive how-to workshop on video interpreting

· Learn about the complex interplay of language access in the context of domestic violence

· Discover careers in interpreting

· Learn about language access issues in the Deaf and Deaf-Blind communities

· Learn about issues relevant to serving LEP students and families in our schools

· Learn the basics of developing a language assistance policy and how to work with interpreters

· Network with other interpreters and providers, and much more!

To register for the conference, you must submit the completed form by postal mail along with payment of the registration fee to the address indicated..
