full description & details:

Masks, movement, visual art and spoken word will be part of TENT CITY PLANET, an outdoor performance on 9/11 exploring the experience of forgotten, invisible, surplus people, from the captive population of Gaza to the still-unreturned evacuees from New Orleans to expelled hutong-dwellers in China to the homeless residents of Seattle.

I am in heaven now.
I no longer feel the cold.
There was no place inside at night.
The shelters were full. The emergency shelters too.
My seat in a doorway was made of cement . . . .

Nine years after 9/11, the world is increasingly divided between those who have too much and those who have too little. Is Patriot Day being used to remember, or to forget?

If you are not one of those who appear successful,
please stay in your assigned zones
as soon as those zones are determined . . . .

TENT CITY PLANET and the Surplus People Performance Co. are projects of the Theater Squad, whose previous 9/11 remembrance projects have included SLEEPWALKING APOCALYPSE and WITHOUT END. This performance is written and directed by local playwright Edward Mast and will feature Meg Savlov, Betsey Beckmann, and other local actors, dancers and musicians. Settings by artist Lisa Bade.

You may be outside the wall today.
But any day now, your message might come.

TENT CITY PLANET will begin at 2:00 PM at Westlake Plaza, near the corner of 4th Ave and Pine St. in downtown Seattle. The event will last approximately one hour, and will take place entirely outdoors, rain or shine. There will be some covered seating in case of rain. Audience members are advised to dress accordingly. Admission is free.

Underground here once was a river . . . .
