October 22 (Wednesday) - Protest / Demonstration
Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression & the Criminalization of a Generation
Defiance is in the air. The people of Ferguson, Missouri, rose up in fury against the murder of Mike Brown, an unarmed 18 year-old Black youth. There have been heroic hunger strikes in prisons and detention centers, and mass outpourings in response to murders by police and racist vigilantes. Prisoners in California declared a stop to racial hostilities and came together to resist the torture of solitary confinement. All this must be taken to a much higher level. October 22nd, the National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression, and the Criminalization of a Generation, is a day that people across the nation have mobilized on every year since 1996. This year, October 22 is also part of a whole Month of Resistance called by the Stop Mass Incarceration Network. This is a month that can impact all of society; one that can open the eyes of millions of people to the need to end this new Jim Crow. Our resistance must reverberate across the country and around the world, with powerful demonstrations nationwide. In Seattle, come stand with thousands across the country to express our collective outrage, creativity, and resistance in response to the crimes of this system, and our determination to END these crimes! Funds are needed to promote and conduct this event. There are printing costs for flyers and posters, etc., equipment costs, etc. Please send donations by check or money order to: October 22 Coalition To Stop Police Brutality- Seattle PO Box 95475 Seattle, Washington 98145 Contact info: 206-264-5527, Oct22seattle@hotmail.com facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/October-22-Coalition-To-Stop-Police-Brutality-Seattle/168280703224023  more...
