FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MEANINGFUL MOVIES brings you the 2nd in a 5-part series on "Food, Farmworkers, and Human Rights" (see below): “Strong Roots” – Brazil’s Landless Workers Movement (41 min, 2001). Over the past 15 years, the Landless Workers Movement (MST) has won 20 million hectares of land for 300,000 families and built thousands of food production cooperatives and schools. The MST land distribution is grounded in Brazilian Constitutional Law, but the Brazilian government must be pressured to implement agrarian reform. Families wait for their chance to work and produce.
